In spring we had a short vacation in the city of Luino at Lago Maggiore
in Italy. We returned there in October because we had no time for the annual
leave to Cesenatico (Adriatic) and we missed Italy a lot. Besides, our
espresso machine broke down and we were getting short of wine supplies
- many reasons to return to Italy.

In May/June the Lake was flooded badly. The last flood like this happened
over 100 years ago.
In June Christian graduated from senior highschool. He passed it only
at the very last moment and was driving around with a question mark (see
arrow) for months until he had finally made it.

Venice Beach, California
In 1999 just like in the past years I was in Los Angeles on business
trips (4 times - total of almost 3 months). I did not have any spare time
for my annual Bike trip to Italy but I did some biking and rollerblading
in sunny California. Riding along the Pacific Coast all the way from
Malibu to San Diego was really nice - it was also a special experience,
being overtaken by heavy trucks on HWY 1 (PCH).
During July Ulrike joined me for a 3 week trip to LA. We celebrated
our 25th wedding anniverary in Las Vegas - great place for partying:

We could have been promoted to actors for the next Baywatch movie easily,
right? We ´ll always remember the beautiful atmosphere at the Sunday
Evening Beach Concerts around sunset in Hermosa Beach.
Starting July 99 Christian left home and went far away to join the
German Navy. In August we visited him at the Island of Sylt near the Danish
boarder for his swearing-in. For us it was a new experience to have a vacation
1200 km away at a German Island instead of going south for 300 km and being
in Italy. Our Airforce Lieutenant Daniel also joined the party.

Ulrike liked Sylt so much that I assume we are going to be back soon
for a longer vacation !!
