We are all doing well, we produce ourselves a lot of stress but we
also enjoy life a lot.
Daniel, being 1st Lieutenant of the German Air Force, is
IT-Officer in Karlsruhe (Information Technology) and travelling on
our freeways a lot. Right now he is setting up his flat with his girlfriend
Isa in Immenstaad pretty close to where we are living.
Miriam has graduated end of September with excellent grades
in Social Science. She immediately found a good job in Stuttgart at the
Caritas where she cares for families and young people who are in social
trouble.
Christian is still going to the Tübingen University studying
Philosophy. He is now in his second year and enjoys his studies very much
Ulrike works for the German Red Cross Organization and takes
care of old people.
I am still working in the same company in the same position. However
due to a reorganization in April I have enlarged my "travel district" significantly
because I am now responsible for Export Projects. That means a lot of travel
and pressure, but it is very varied and interesting. Via the main menu
"Reisen(Travel)" you can get some impressions
of my travels.
Brief Summary of Events of 2001:
As usual I have collected some info on past events of the year. I put travel info into a separate page, please enter main menu "Reisen(Travel)" to access that. You can also click on some of the pictures below to have a direct link to the appropriate page.
Skiing season started pretty late end of January because of the bad
snow condition. Daniel has convinced me to go to Silvretta Nova a couple
of times - a real nice skiing area but even longer to go there than
Golm or Schruns.
In April I made a 4-day cultural trip to Rome/Italy with my son Christian.
End of April it was time for my first trip to Oman, one of 4 voyages
in 2001. Up to then I had no contact to the Arabic countries - it was time
for this new valuable experience.
In June Daniel and his girlfriend Isabel made the 3 week roundtrip
through the west of the USA which has initially been planned after Highschool
already (Los Angeles - Grand Canyon - some of the famous Parks - San Francisco
and back to L.A.). Left you see Daniel in front of the Golden Gate
Bridge and Isa in one of the Cable Cars of San Francisco.
Beginning of July our local Musical Club (not sure if that´s
the right translation but I am too lazy to look it up in a dictionary)
had his 200th anniversary and celebrated a great 4-day party for the entire
village.
Like every year (this year end of July) : Cesenatico-Valverde at the
Adriatic in Italy.
For us it is not getting boring to revisit the same place Cesenatico
every year !!! We love it !!
Together with Bruno and our Swiss friends we had a lot of fun.
August: Unbelievable weather for our summer visit to my family in Westerburg.
The barbecue has been replaced by pan fried king prawns - but the atmosphere
has been great as usual.
August 20th: My collegues had a great idea as a present for my 50th
birthday: Tickets for the Opera La Bohème at the Bregenz festival.
That was a super idea and the performance has been the best since Carmen
and Nabucco.
In September I made my first trip to Abu Dhabi. The above picture was
taken 2 hours before the attacks of the WTC and Pentagon on 11 September.
Our Arabic friends and business partners were as upset about this horrible
disaster as we were.
September: Visit to Miriam in Stuttgart for the Cannstadter Vasen (that´s
something like the Oktoberfest).
In November Miriam proudly received her diploma in Social Science.
Congratulations !!
In November I visited oman during the holy month of Ramadhan. This
was a very special experience.
In 2001 we were not only "Dreaming of a white Christmas", we
had it. I shot the fotos above in the afternoon of Xmas Eve from my window.
It´s just 2 inches of snow but it looks nice, doesn´t it.
