Christmas Letter 2008
--> click here for German Version
For those of you who know us: This is our electronic Christmas Letter for 2008
We all are doing well, we enjoy life and our new tasks as
grandparents. As you can see in my travel pages I am still travelling a
lot. In our little village at the lake a lot has been going on in the
past year. For most issues mentioned here there are picture shows, at
the end of this letter you can find the appropriate links.
We wish you a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2009
Ulrike, Bernhard, Daniel and Isabel with Sophia, Miriam and Martin, and Christian
Our Christmas Letter 2008 in pictures:

Winter: picture from January 19, 2008. The first snow of last
winter 2007/2008 showed up around Easter. Nevertheless, it has been a
super Skiwinter.

I have been skiing again, as often as before my accident - I can not
let it stop. Christian also enjoys the après ski in the
"paradise" on top of the Hochjoch (Montafon).

Carnival season only lasted 5 weeks - we still it extensively
celebrated our events . Ulrike had to leave for work right before we
took that picture - that´s why she is not there.

March 2008: a business trip to Barcelona (Spain). A highly interesting
city with many miles of beaches, I willl have to return some
day for vacation.

Spring (picture from April 4th, 2008): View from the harbour towards the mountains.

May 2008: My birthday celebration

Summer (picture dated 11 June 2008)

May 2008: Immenstaad Love Parade

June 2008: Like in the past 30 years: Cesenatico (Italy) again,
this time with Daniel, Isabel, Sophie and Isabel's parents Helga and
Hans-Joerg. I liked that old picture...(taken in the early years of the
past century)

Now you know why our team at the European Championship was so successful...

Have you ever tried that? That´s called a Segway and is a great
experience - except that it costs some 6000 € in Germany and it is
not possible to get that registered in Germany (I assume no room for a
licence plate, so German Bureaucracy kills it). It runs almost 20
mph and is steered just by leaning into the direction you want to go.
There are rental places in most large cities - I just could´nt
pass by one of those...

Before the finals of the European Soccer Championship everything still looked okay ...

What do you think about my new car? A 59 Corvette...

"Rent a Dream Car" makes a dream possible. The music of the 8-cylinder is unforgettable ...

During a business trip to Houston, I had to visit the NASA Johnson
Space Center of NASA. It has always been my dream, to see the originals
from the early days of men in space.

We extended our trip to Houston to see some more of the southern states, e.g. New Orleans, Miami and the Everglades.
Resumé: The steaks in Texas are the best, but nothing can beat Southern California.

Like every year: A visit to my mother (meanwhile 90 years old) in Westerwald where I grow up.

All of a sudden my son Daniel complained "Dady, we have been living here at
the biggest lake of Central Europe fpr more than 20 years and we are just doing swimming, that
cannot be all ..."
Consequentially the next familiy project - boating - started: Theory
lessons during winter; practice and exams during summer - we are now
holding all licenses for our lake. Next project is something with an 8-cylinder in the back....(guess what?)

You recognize this bearded sailor....?

Right before the motor boat exam...

Isabel doing full speed, you can see our village of Immenstaad in the background.

Autumn (picture from October 5, 2008)

September and October are the months of the German beer festivals:
Munich Octoberfest, Stuttgart (Cannstatter Wasen) and the
Octoberfest Constance

November 2008: the airspace of the airport Friedrichshafen has been
closed to allow us to fly our model jets: You see the Jet world
champion Thomas Gleißner in action, the model is about 10 ft wide
and weighs almost 50 ponds. This year I have started flying model
helicopters - with modern electronics with gyro stabilization that is
no longer a problem and great fun.
Unfortunately, this also belongs to the Annual Review 2008:
We lost 2 very good friends:

In August, Ursel died of cancer after long period of sufferin at the
age of 44 years. We will never forget her. Here's a picture taken in
February of this year. In reviewing my pictures of the past few years
you see: Ursel has always been among us, always good-humored - with her
unforgettable smile.

My cousin Michael - here you see him together with the holy father in
Rome - died after a long illness at the age of 58 years. He was a
catholic priest and had his parish in Hennef, Germany. We grow up
together and played together during our childness. We will never
forget Michael.
